Apr 14, 2009 A search of completed auctions on Gunbroker shows that similar condition, 1916 dated Erfurt lugers have been selling in the 700-850 range.......a few in true 90 have gone into the 11-12-1300 range It appears to have been refinished....... My BYF gun was almost thrown away by the family of the deceased vet who brought it back See more. It seems unlikely that a Luger that had been in police and possibly military service from 1916 to 1945 would be in 95 condition. Many such guns were reblued in the U.S. If your experts are not experienced in telling the original finish from a reblue, they might have overlooked the refinish, which would seriously reduce the value of the pistol. HTH. Numbering usually went from 1-9,999 then 1a to 9999a, then 1b to 9999b, etc., although there is conflicting discussions on whether the serial numbers went from 1 9999 or whether they were 1 10,000. I have seen pictures of guns marked both ways, 9,999 and 10,000. Luger Suffixes 1916 DWM Byf 42 1914 DWM 1918 DWM 1940 42.
